Every time a lawn is cut a precious fossil fuel is used unless it is cut by a push mower. Petrol will run out one day and it seems that if there is a way to use less now that day will be delayed. By using an automatic lawnmower not one drop of petrol is used. Come to that neither is one drop of sweat generated! A robotic lawnmower runs on a lithium battery and the energy to charge that is minimal. The annual cost of having the robot cutting the lawn is about £6.00.

Ride On Mower
These automatic mowers have been used in America and on the Continent for a very long time but somehow, in the UK they are little known. I have had a robot cutting my lawn for three years and when friends see it trundling around the lawn they are amazed and most impressed and want to know what on earth it is. The automatic lawnmower is just that - automatic. It is programmed to cut the lawn automatically, with no human input, at a time that suits. It could even be during the night as they are virtually noiseless.
The robot mower moves in an area defined by a perimeter wire which very quickly grows into the lawn and becomes invisible. It is a one-off to instal and may be done by yourself or a trained technician if so wished. This wire has a 24 volt current running through it, undetected by animals and humans. The mower has sensors and when it reaches the wire, backs off and cuts the lawn in a different, random way. It might seem that a random path would not cut all the lawn, however the robot does cover the area. There are different models for lawns from the smallest up to 4 acres. The medium size only weighs 9Kgs.
Until I bought my automatic mower my life seemed to be ruled by the lawn in summer. If it was going to rain it had to be cut or it would grow too long. Another worry was that the lawn needed fertilising - but not any more. The lawn never needs fertilising because the automatic lawnmower cuts off such minute lengths of grass each time that the clippings drop onto the lawn and provide natural nutrients; that is another saving of energy as most fertiliser is imported from abroad using up more CO2 emissions.
My lawn is even cut for me when I am on holiday! The robot does not go on strike - it automatically cuts my lawn whether I am there or not.
